It was more than 10 years ago and could have been 20 years ago.

Not sure if Brian has been on the site, I'm pretty sure he had one of these items.

I did have an unfinished, machined from solid billet safety lever but sold it along with a bunch of other stuff back in '96. I honestly can't remember who I sold it to but Yoshi would be my first thought.Big smile I don't remember ever having a billet cocking piece though.

The safety lever can be done without CNC; a lot of the swoopy curves are actually simple arcs. But it will take a *lot* of setups to make a reasonably faithful copy of the safety.

Here's some pictures of the prototype lever that Brian was talking about. Yes, it was made to old fashion way, on conventional mills and lathes, but with modern technology the lever can easily be made on modern CNC tooling. If someone had access to a 5th axis turret mill, and safety lever can easily me manufactured in two operation. It’s possible to manufacture the lever with a 4th axis within two ops, three ops at the max.

To get the smooth contours, one would use a “Surf Mill” program during machining. In fact, the complete pistol can be made and contoured like the original using Surf Mill.

All looks well and good, but who all has the equipment and patience to do it, other than a hobby project. Too many parts to make any money at it, and few have that much free time. Just saying.

I totally agree.

Passion does go a long way though.

Yes, I well know Eric. I've done a bunch of those " love of labor" projects. Not trying to discourage, just saying.

Still gimping along with the house remodeling project. Since I work until I can't stand up any more, I haven't had any time to put into the Auto Mag.

However, my wife bought me a present - the semifinished prototype frame Walter Sanford was selling on Gunbroker. It's a stippled frame, polished, no serial number, the bolt ring is undersized, the rotation pin hole is welded up, and the dovetail isn't fully machined. I think it's one of the ones that got welded up and remachined a few times.

Right now it's just a paperweight, but eventually I'll finish the machine work on it.

I did manage to get the time to determine what the problem was with the barrel and frame I already have. On one side, the chamfer on the top of the frame over the dovetail isn't quite large enough to let the barrel lug slide in. There's a strong urge to make a few strokes with the file and see if that's enough, but I guess I'll just wait to set it up on the mill and make a proper cut.
