And concerning your second reply; both the spring and the plunger were there. I had 2 gunsmiths have a look at it, but they both didn’t have a clue what the problem could be.
When firing a round, the slide came back about 3-4 mm and then everything blocked.
You could feel that the empty case was loose in the chamber, but it was impossible to pull the slide any further. Tapping a brass punch on the breechface with a hammer was the only solution…
We believe the top front of the chamber and the slide couldn’t pass each other and got stuck. But cycling the thing by hand was no problem at all. I don’t have an explanation for it.

About the broken hammerstrut, why not make your own?
if you can make this scopebase, you won't have much trouble to make one. Just use a good piece of steel.
I would help you out, but I only have one spare left and have five pistols in use...

Thanks! But all the work was done by a friend of mine and a few of his connections, so all the credit to them Smile

I’ll try to make my own hammerstrut. I wouldn’t want you to sell your only spare hammerstrut if you have 5 AM’s Wink
Is the hammerstrut hardened? Or is it just regular sheet steel?

By the way, where are you from?? I would really be interested to have a look at your collection!!

Real important to not pull the trigger with the slide off, the hammer over travels and bends the strut, at least on an Automag II.

Thanks for the tip. I never pull the trigger with the slide off. I guess the previous owner has done it, otherwise it wouldn’t have been broken.

I found a picture on the forum with both the AMii and the AMiii hammerstruts. The AMii hammerstrut has different dimensions, so I don’t think it would fit. I’ll try to make one myself.

Some other comments on your above post, about the malfunction pistol, I wonder if that small pin and spring was missing INSIDE the recoilrod?
Some seem to work without the pin but most of them need this.

That looks good!   Mount up a sight and shoot it!   Once it’s all worked out, pretty it up.

Just a little update on the optics plate for one of the IAI automag iii’s. It fits really nice on the slide. I just need to make some cosmetic cuts to make it less ‘bulky’.

The AMT automag iii is back to the guy who sold it. I had to hammer (yes, with a hammer…) the slide open after every, or after every second shot. Something was definitely wrong with that gun.

On the other IAI automag iii, the hammer strut was broken when it arrived. Anyone has a replacement hammerstrut available? Impossible to find one anywhere Cry

Welcome!  Lots of great information here.  Not a busy forum.

When you take that slide apart, there is a ball bearing (and spring) in that safety lever that will go flying somewhere if you aren't super careful.  Also, it is a real pain to put those back in or it was for me.  Just so you know, it's a US sized bearing and not metric.  Might not be the easiest to find if you loose it over there.  However, if you do, your local bicycle shop might have one if they work on older bikes with loose ball bearings as there were a lot of "English" hubs out there (and even Shimano used "English" bearings when they were loose).  I went to my stash of loose ball bearings for bicycles when I lost mine......

I think you should make the adapter and try to clean up the slide and leave it natural.  or at least try it that way until you know your adapter works.
