Gentlemen
I recently purchased a lee Jurras safety lever and proceeded to install it. I got installed and put the safety plate back on and tightened up the screw head. I noticed the safety lever would not rotate the safety plate enough to push the trigger bar down to drop the bolt safety tappet. Also, I could not move the safety into the on position with out pushing the hammer with my thumb. I took the lee out and put the stock one back in every thing worked fine. What could be the issue? Also if I have to go back to the stock one what are the size of snap rings that will work? Mine had one on there but I lost it to the work bench lol. I know the original part is a retaining ring but since Maynard Arms isn't selling them any more and the ones sent to me from Automag parts are so hard to get on I just want to use something. Does Maynard Arms still do the mod to the safety lever to add the screw? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Justin |

Justin, The safety lever may need fitting. Usually a job for a gunsmith. Retaining rings can be bought on gunbroker, usually Bruce Stark has some, and there is an old ad on the message board as I sell them. You really need a tool to install them easily. you can see where I made one from a center punch if you search the forum. You can do the same if you are handy. Obviously, use any information at your own risk! Brian used to sell a really nice tool to install them. Jason

Thanks so much for the info! I'll see if I can make a tool unless someone on here has one for sale. I received the retaining ring in the mail, never seen one like this lol. I can see why a special tool is required. I'll hold off on the Lee safety then since gunsmiths for these firearms are hard to come by. If I can figure out what to do to build the snap ring for it described in Brian's book. Justin |

Below is the link to Brian's site.
It looks like he's temporarily out of stock of his tool for the #30 'clip' (a.k.a. retaining ring).
I suggest emailing or PM'ing him here to put your name down for a back order on one.
It's likely better made than one you could jury-rig yourself, but I'm not sure when he will have more made though. I'm sure he can let you know about that.
Scroll down all the way to the bottom, that's where the advert for the clip installation tool is. Neat little device.
Cheers.

What's Brian's name on here so I can PM him? Thanks for the help guys, thought this was a simple job and probably was if I didn't lose the dang snap ring that came with the firearm. Other than stock retaining ring has anyone else figured out something useful there?

If you look at Brian's tool there, you will see it have a tapered mandrel to put the ring down over and expand it and it slides off the mandrel onto the safetly lever shaft and down into the groove. These rings are destroyed when removed. You do have the washer that goes under it correct? |

Yes I have the washer and was able to get the Jurras safety to work rotating the hammer out of the way. Just needed some adjustment. Now the safety plate won't rotate down far enough lol, I checked the hole and it looks like its worn out a bit. It measures .128in ish. So I ordered a new one from automagsparts and asked for one with a smaller hole. Let see how that works when it arrives. Then I won't have to make a tool.

Gun works now with both. Looks like the safety plate is worn out and only fits the original. I ordered a new one so let's see if it rotates like the original.
