here is a thought ... I love lever guns, and my automag hmmmmmm could a 44mag marlin be re-chambered to 44automag ??? that would be COOL !!!!!! one ammo two great guns .. OH MY !! what else could we re-chamber ... I'd love to cut down the number of types of loads I do ... and when I start loading for my automag .. well that's one more ... so what are ya'lls thoughts .. Talon |

| My thoughts are, WHY ? besides what you call convience. Check chamber drawings of both cartridges then check your existing 44 Mag chamber specs. If there is enough meat left, the chambering might be simple compared to modifying the extractor from rimmed to rimless, at least from the standpoint of practicality...just my thoughts. |

I bought a 44 Mag barrel for my TC with the same thought. When I called SSK, I was informed that because of the taper it was a no-go. So now I have a nice 44 Mag Bull barrel for my TC Contender. As a side, I did have a 357 Mag Bull barrel rechambered to 357 AMP with no problem. A great set up.

FWIW on the TC angle, roughly a yr ago I talked with them about a 44 AMP barrel, and I got the impression they'd still do the barrel. According to my notes the fellow I talked with said they still had the reamer. The quote was $225. I think to find out for sure you'd have to place an order with the custom desk. Was also told the frame is about $250 and has to be ordered separate from a licensed dealer.
So that's another possibility for those interested in shooting AM ammo in other than the AM.
To use another round as an example, I know there're folks who like a lever gun + SA revolver both in 45 Colt. And I see the appeal. The Colt history figures in that. But being primarily a hunter I find it a whole lot more versatile, practical and just as convenient to shoot a handgun cartridge in a handgun with everything backed up by a 30-06 with a 3x9 scope, depending on shooting distances. Or a lever gun in 30-30 if the distances work. That's just my take on the one load for both guns.

| Ginsaw, your take is the right idea. I shoot both rifle, handgun, and LR Precision rifle. Never the twain shall meet, at least with the idea of mixing calibers. Altho I might shoot my 45 Colt, 44 Mag and or 475 at 1000 yds its not with the gusto that I am working with in the 7 STW, 30/378 or even the 6.5/284...the handgun I am seenig how close I can come to or hit a 55 gal drum size target, and with the rifle it might be to hit a PD, coyote and or jackrabbit...Now keeping it under 125 yds is where the hangun/rifle chambering come in handy. Depends on the game you want to play...The 30/30 carbine in the hands of a rifleman can do some surprising things when it comes to hunting on the NA continent. But just cause your guide/outfitter stopped a Grizz with his Mod 94 30/30 doesn't mean its a good choice for the occasional hunter or that YOU can... |

I have an SSK 14" 357 AMP Contender Barrel.
I shot a deer at about 80 yards last year (turned out to be a small spike, wanted a doe) with my Contender. The deer ran about 75 yards into the woods, that was it.
Nearly Perfect Shot, Simmons scope, came with the barrel (2-7x?)
My first deer with a handgun. I was impressed with the 357 AMP barrel at 100 yards. It being a custom barrel doesn't hurt.
I'm thinking of ordering a 16.5" 357 AMP Contender Barrel. That'd make a nice light carbine. It'd be somthing if my kids used it to take their first deer, huh? I think a 10 year old (with supervision) could shoot that (inside a 100 yards).
I've been working on a Turk Mauser converted to 357 AMP (for the hell of it). Not anywhere close yet.

I own contenders and they are ok .. my normal hunting rig is a cut down redhawk (3") in 45colt my rifles are savage 99's in 7mm-08, 358win, and 300sav. my thoughts are more would it be possible and how cool it would be ... and a reason to take out my automag :-) and to get more use out of my reloading which won't be fore awhile for 44amp .. all in all .. hunting is my primary reason for shooting,,, Thanks all ...
