Is anyone using a ‘Wilson-style’ recoil buffer in their Hardballer or Auto-Mag 111? The thought came to me that, particularly with the center fire AutoMags, a recoil buffer could reduce wear on hard to replace parts.

I know some say they aren’t necessary in 1911 style pistols. That may well be true but I’ve used them in a couple 1911’s. Over time (and use) the buffer becomes quite deformed, making me think I’d rather have the buffer get beat up than my pistol’s internal parts.

If you're talking about the "Shok-Buff"...I've used them in 1911 type pistols...but only full-size models. They're not recommended for Commander size. In the smaller Defender size I haven't tried them so can't say whether their use is a good idea but would think if it reduced reliability in a Commander size pistol the chances of malfunctions are increased in a smaller size.

If you intend to use them...only buy buy Wilson Combat as clones are much less giving and won't last. Even then...I replace the Wilson Combat if they look to be turning hard or they show compression and not returning to size after being shot. That does take some shooting before that occurs. They are a service part that require replacement as needed.

Many shooters insist they're not necessary and reduce reliability. I've not experienced that in full-sized pistols as I said...but in truth...they're not really necessary. They're only for reducing wear on recoiling parts. Try them if you like. If you experience problems...toss them aside and don't use them anymore.
