Hi everyone,

I am sorry that the forum has been down for the last 20 days but we had yet another database corruption.

When the forum was first set up we used a database called MS Access and over the years it has done us proud, MS Access is a free database and as we have grown it is sadly a story of you get what you pay for and as such we have had two database corruptions in the past few weeks.

With that in mind I decided to get an upgrade to the forum from MS Access into mySql, the problem is that there is direct upgrade form the two different database vendors so I have spent the last couple of weeks in the evenings writing a set of custom migration scripts so we did not suffer a loss of all of fantastic information that we have built up over the years.

And I am happy to say that after quite a bit of working and testing the script is complete and the migration has taken place tonight and is now complete.

What does this mean?

Well as far as users of the forum are concerned there should be no  change (if I have done my job correctly) but instead of the database being run from the free MS Access we are not running on a real relational database server (mySql) that can cope with the number of users, topics, replies and PM's that we are using.

For those who are interested this is the stats as I type:

Number of Topics 1,724
Number of Posts 15,939
Number of Members  793
Number of Private Messages 5,429
Number of Polls 2

The move to mySql should give us a robust platform going forward, like I have said I am sorry for the disruption to the forum but we should be good from this point on.

All the best.

Ian

Great job Ian.  If it weren't for you there would not be a forum for all the experts to help
with their input for us novices.

Ian,
I forgot to ask:   One thing I noticed is that the " latest posts" thread/heading is gone.
Is that going to be brought back or no?, just curious.

Cheers.
