Thanks for the add, I waited about a week for an activation, I was just about to call a member on the phone, he had his number posted. But right at the very moment I was about to call, I reloaded the site and saw my account was activated, thanks and hello.
So I've a 22 Automag II I got NIB for $650 a few months ago. It of course doesn't cycle with the ammo I had (Hornady 30g and Federal 50g). But I got 250 rounds of Winchester X 40g high power the other day from SG Ammo in OK, I'm about to head out to our local gun club and try it out.
About some problems and remedies, the hammer spur tail bent on me (which I know now to tape down when the slide is off), so I heated it with a torch and bent it back, but the tail broke after a few (non-cycling) rounds. But I reinserted it and the trigger works fine, the little nub on the tail is just enough to keep it in the spring. In fact, it probably works better than having that long tail, which just seemed to be grinding away in the hammer spring.
Also, I'd some light hammer strikes, because the hammer wasn't traveling all the way forward to the striker, so I cannibalized a small screw from some old electronics, dremeled off most of the shank, then stuck it in the bottom of the hammer spring, allowing the hammer to now go all the way forward to the striker. So it fires fine but doesn't cycle at this point.
Then I made four more untested mods. One, I shot some lithium grease into the spring. Two, I dremeled with a triangular shaped stone regrading the ejector pin issue. Three, being that AMTs are made with a stainless steel that galls, I read an interview with one of their engineers, he advised Sanford about the problem, who just laughed and said to grease them up. So I greased the rails with some stay-lube. Four, there's also a lot of friction between the slide, forward at the bottom, and where it nests into the frame, which has scratched the slide area in question. So I put some electrical tape in that nested area, which does seem to alleviate friction when racked and should stop the scratching.
It makes a nice boom and a huge muzzles flash, I hope this thing cycles with this new ammo. I'll post all of this and some more on the main board area later.

Hi all new here. I've been a gun collector for 30 years. I like anything different and weird. I've been look for a automag iii for many years. Most of them were way overpriced (i know they arent cheap) or way too far away. I wont buy one online afraid of not being able to inspect, although i have bought plenty of new guns online. Well i finally bought one yesterday from a guy on armslist. Met the nice seller an hour away and made the deal. Its very nice and its obviously shot very little.

I'm new here as well. Just purchased an original Pasadena Automag but still waiting for it to be released from 7-day jail here in the People's Republic of Marylandstan.
About me...retired federal law enforcement officer with a number of different jobs prior to that life. As said already I live in the People's Republic of Marylandstan...but once my wife retires next Spring we're heading to Arizona where we already own a home that will be remodeled and leave Maryland in the rear view mirror.
I'm a long time gun "accumulator" with a primary interest in Colt firearms. I own many but also have an assortment of Smith & Wessons with a smattering of other makes. Besides the Automag I also have an AMT Hardballer Longslide in 7-day jail as well. I always wanted a Longslide but I doubt if Colt will ever make one and found this AMT in .45 ACP. I'd like to find a Javelina Longslide 10mm as well one day.
I'm looking forward to being a part here and chatting with others.

Welcome Whiplash & Burp Enjoy the board and read and when you think you read enough read some more, theirs a lot of information here, don't be afraid to ask questions and keep your eyes open for spare parts, an Automag is worthless if you break a part and cant replace it. Ed

Hi TylerS,
Much like Luc and yourself I have a bit of a soft spot for the AutoMag III.
Luc, I am sure you recognise the location and the gun considering it's your club and pistol

Ian, yes I remember those pictures (from long ago...) That was shot with the UMC 30carbine ammunition. Always good flamethrower ammo. To bad this ammo no longer to find here. Maybe with Remington back in business, it may show up again?
TylerS, nice ring of fire, what brand ammo is that?

I believe that is some old S&B in that picture. Not sure how old but they definitely dont make that box any more.
I currently have a box or two of that UMC you mentioned, also have a bunch of Remington green & white box and some Korean surplus. I own an M1 carbine along with my AM3 so I have to keep stock up on my .30 ammo lol

New member. Aquired a 180 and wanted to make a holster. Saw this image on the internet and decided to make a copy. Amature leather hobbyist. Made a paper pattern by tracing my 180 and tested the pattern around the pistol before cutting the leather. It needed a few adjustments before I stitched it up. What do you think? I also used a Tandy Leather pattern for a G.I. 1911 cavalry holster and upsized it for the Auto Mag. I hand carved the Auto Mag logo on the flap and made a mag pouch as well. The other holster is an original Bianchi X15 shoulder holster.

Thanks. Interesting thing about the attached mag pouch is it is one piece of leather. When you unsnap it, the flap is used to pull the mag up slightly for a better grip on it. Thinking about copying other vintage holsters-just for fun and practice. I like the basket weave on the Safariland #103.

Something else I rediscovered recently. Started reading the Executioner books in the early 1970s, about the same time I tried delving into a new Tandy Leather Craft Kit. So I copied a Mack Bolan cover and blew it up to make a tracing pattern onto leather. The result is a roughly 6x6” carving of Mack and “Big Thunder.” Not bad for a 13-14 year old at the time. Sorry my tablet seems to rotate the photos I have posted 90 deg when I post.

Good afternoon, all. Thanks for the add! Living in the amazing state of Tennessee (Knoxville). Joined this forum to see about a gun that I’ve had in the safe for years. Like the look and size, but have no use for it and wanted to see if it was a somewhat popular pistol. Seems to be a bit on the rarer side, from what I’ve gathered. It’s an all original AMT Backup chambered in 9X19, which seems to be a bit of an oddity. Glad to be here! Loving the pics of some of the more rare pistols!!!

It looks like your picture may have been inspired by the cover artwork of this issue of the Executioner. I have the oil painting of this artwork. It has been said that everybody should own an oil and a bronze. My bronze is of Tex Ritter and White Flash.....Bruce

No bronze artwork though! Several limited edition lithos of F4U Corsairs. Several signed, one by Pappy Boyington. Was a great art gallery in Carmel owned by Stan Stokes when I was with the 7th Infantry Division in the early 1990s.

Yes, that does look more like your drawing. I guess you noticed that the picture on the book is a reverse negative of the number 10 gun, as seen in the Aristocrat brochure. You fixed where the ejection port should be. I used to work on A7-D Corsair's. I also worked on Phantoms. F-4 E's C's D's and once a Navy F-4 J. At Tokyo Disneyland we had the designer of the castle at Disneyland arrive in Tokyo to inspect the new castle. I picked him up one morning to show him Tokyo. When he met me in front of his hotel, he looked up and said, "The last time I was here, I was firebombing the place." It turned out he was part of the Black Sheep Squadron and had volunteered for a bombing mission. He had some grizzly stories to tell. That is why I titled my book, about building Tokyo Disneyland, Black Sheep in Tokyo. Bruce

Great experiences Bruce. I do volunteer work at the Illinois State Military Museum. Get to use my limited carpentry, masonry, and painting skills, in exhibit design and construction. Never built a castle though. One of the other vols was an F4 mech in Col. Robin Old’s wing! Thanks for your service. Do you still have copies of your Auto Mag book available? I’m late to this Auto Mag collecting game. Jim

About the MGC Auto Mag toys, I tried to collect them all but maybe not. I will list the ones I know of. 1) Black. 2) High polished silver. 3) Brushed silver 4) Blued. 5) Black but weighted, to feel like a real Auto Mag. 6) Clear plastic Auto Mag. 7) Black weighted frame and high polished barrel extension, upper. 8) High polished silver that uses FLON, freon and oxygen, to propel the plastic bullet instead of a cap. The FLON is contained in the magazine. They may have made a few different versions of this one, but they sold very quickly, and I missed out. They also made holsters and magazine loading tools for the gun. Bruce

Thank you Bruce, I’ll do the paypal in a bit. Your book won’t cover mine I’m afraid, it is an AO69xx serial number range. The barrel has High Standard on the left and TDE on the ejection port side. Has an El Monte “smile” bolt. It has been polished. Disappointing because the black etch has been polished out, lettering is still there but doesn’t stand out. Obviously a victim of the old foam demon. It came with a broken original case, but I fixed that, tools and oil bottle though. Think this puts it in the 1975 timeframe. Your book will still be a nice edition to my collection. Thanks in advance. Jim

Some of my print materials collection. Especially happy to find an original Guns & Ammo, from 1958 that introduced the “.44 Automatic” cartridge. A cartridge that waited more than a decade for a pistol!

Going to a cartridge show in St. Louis April 18th to look for original Auto Mag ammo. I have about 300 rounds of original CDM, some SBR, and 50 rounds from a niche company called Rebel.

I did get to that St. Louis cartridge show. However, only scored a single Norma head stamped .44 Auto Mag cartridge. Saw some original Cor Bon ammo on GB, with a reserve not met and a buy it now at $500; for a few boxes I think. Still on the hunt.
