Whole gun or just Bbl, the Bbl is the serial numbered part of any Lightning/MK II.  Angry

There may be workarounds if you have FFL issues??? (i.e use your donor Lightning/MK II Bbl as a "core")

Sorry I don't recall if you were one of us BAM fans?

I personally cannot imagine not having one and LOVE shooting mine!

I am so much looking forward to Brian being able to run off some BAM Bbls, I really hope he decides to move forward with this idea, I think it could be a hugh hit for him and us.

Did I say how much I LOVE the BAM!!!  Big smile

My stupid question is how did BATF decide on the BAM bbl/receiver being the "firearm" and making it have the serial number verus the Frame being the "firearm" and it having to have the serial number. All other firearms (that I know) it is always the frame not the bbl assy. I really don't know why people also call it the bbl/receiver and not just bbl assy. Any thoughts?

Yes, the Bam is a great looking pistol and both my shooters are great.

Who knows, for all we know the manufacturer makes this call.

The whole process of gun tracking is crazy when you consider that we have been massproducing guns for 200 years and there enough undocumented guns for every man, woman, and child to have several.

Its nothing more than a political feel-good measure that leaves the honest gun owner suffering while the criminal gets anything they want and without any difficulty and probably at a lower cost.

I was thinking about that recently also. With all the add-ons for the Ruger 10/22, why can't you make a barrel for the MkII. I would be interested in about 9 months. Both kids getting married.
My Ruger is in blue.

Automag, you're not old. Like me, you're seasoned. Wink

I want to answer the serial number question as best I can, if it will help. I think our friend Ric Mutascio would be better than I at this but I'll give it what I have. When I received my first class 7 FFL (manufacturing) I was told by Mr. Ed Owens of BATF that the serial number is placed by the manufacturer and then approved (or rejected) by BATF. This happens when a firearm is submitted to BATF for approval of the design such as when I started manufacturing the Semi-Only conversions for the Browning 1919 .30 Cal. machine gun. It is the right side plate of the receiver in this case that holds the serial number and is designated the "gun". All other parts were just machined goods. The receiver part of the gun is the most common place but the "receiver" comes in many configurations. On the AM's, the receiver is the handle (or frame). On the Ruger MKII style, it is the barrel extension.

I sure hope this helps. Smile

I got out myMK II and you are right , the s/n is on the barrel . What would happed if we sent the original barrel to match to a  BAM barrel?  We are talking about a 22 pistol, not a sub-gun.
Good Luck

Gerry, if you're sking whether or not I can make a BAM barrel with the same serial number, the answer is yes. However, with that said, it would have my company name on it, not Rugers.
