Try some of the barrel markers; they may have some 440A bar in inventory.

One of my customers is a steelyard. They have a catalog that shows "standard shapes" that are supposedly available... but probably 80% of them aren't actually available at all, though you could pay the set-up charges and the mill could make some for you within the next year, as long as you buy at least a full railcar load of it. Another 10% are available occasionally, as in they make runs every four or five years, and if they're sold out there's a long wait. The other 10% are common shapes they make all the time.

I'd found that out earlier about electronic components, except probably 98% of the catalog parts don't exist, 1% are only made occasionally, and 1% are actually available on the market. And pricing gets really strange - in quantity 10,000, part X is 19 cents, quantity 1,000, $9.85, quantity 10, $39.73, but if you just need one they'll often send it to you for free, if any are actually to be had. The mind, she boggle...

If vendors would actually admit to this sort of thing in their catalogs or web sites, it would greatly simplify the life of design engineers...

I'm still in Brian. Hopefully you'll find what you need soon. But if it's August then so be it :)

Ok I’ll go out on a limb and ask a stupid question, do you need the same material for BAM Bbls?

If not and given that you are in a holding pattern, how about a run of BAM Bbls!

I’m in the market for several, 3 at a minimum but with a twist we can discuss if this is an option.

Please consider it, I think there is a market for BAM Bbls and then maybe the conversion of AMT/Ruger lowers to BAM specs.

What say you Brian???

As our teachers said many years ago in grade school...there are no stupid questions. Tongue I'm actually working on something right now that is right in line with BAM's and I will be using the 17-4 for the concept. I might be able to get some BAM's made in the process if there is a serious interest. Anyone following this thread, please feel free to reign in here if you have any interest in BAM barrels. It wouldn't be cost effective to make just a handfull.

Like I said, I'm in for 3 or maybe 4 Bbls right up front, but as I said mine would all be a bit of a variation as I'm looking for; a BAM International (flat rib no sights and only a 6 1/2" rib) a 6 1/2" BAM, and a 4 1/2" BAM.

So I guess my question to you is the basic tooling likely to be the same?

And again, I'm in for modifying a couple of frames as well.

I'm ready when you are!

Thanks - gh

This is very doable George. As I do often, when there are many different configurations, I can incorporate the tooling to accomodate the different lengths. But tooling would definately be neccessary for at least the welding of the rib to the barrel. Yes...it can be done! LOL

OUTSTANDING!

Like I said, I'm ready to move out on this, let me know when you are and I'll happily send cash up front to help offset your expenses.

Who knows, this could be the start of a reserection of the BAM!

And if the MK II guys catch on this could end up being way bigger than anything you could do for the Auto Mag as that market is limited at best, but there must be a million Rugers out there and we know Harry made a bunch of Lightning pistols so its a pretty deep market.  Something to think about when its time to pay the rent,,,

Hell, I'd be interested in a BAM international and 6 1/2-inch vent rib. If you do so, Please make Bolts and, I know it's a stretch, but BAM frames...

Thanks,

Eric

I'm real excited to build a scoped BAM, it will be a great pest control device for the backyard!

In all seriousness this could be a really cool piece, I have spoken to Brian about a shoulder stock option that would utilize the mainspring housing/latch and would be similar to what LEJ offered.

I'll happily file for the BATF paperwork to have a full on BAM International!

Now if one of you guys can come up with a plan to upsize the Lightning to handle 22 Mag so I can have a 22 Mag BAM International then I will have one of my 2 dream pistols.  The other being an Auto Mag HARDBALLER just like the original 45 ACP prototype but in 10 MM.  If I can get both guns built in my lifetime I'll die a very happy man!

Well I can dream can't I,,,   ;-)

IF what's being suggested is a whole NEW complete BAM, then the frame is a "gun" to BATF and an FFL license is needed? Is that not the case? Unless we're just talking barrels...
