Hello, new member here. I just picked up another 30 carbine by IAI. I’m comparing it to my AMT III and have noticed some minor differences, especially the ejector. Should I be concerned? I hand cycled some dummy rounds through the IAI and it does kick the rounds out. Also the barrel bushing on the AMT will not turn far enough to remove it. Last thing, some of the mag followers are shaped differently, the ones with the follower that has a lower back end seem to cause problems with the slide picking up the next round when cycling. Any suggestions would be appreciated very much. Thank you all.
Tried uploading pictures, but unable to at this time, still working on it.

Sometimes the pics get downloaded to your files and you don't notice. They don't show up on you post. You can check by hitting the photo icon like you are getting ready to add a pic to your post. The box on the left will show any pics that got downloaded. Those are easy to add to your post.
good luck and keep trying it can be a pain

I’ve tried all sorts of methods, including down sizing the files. I think I’m clicking on the correct icon. It’s the one that is green with what I think is a tree. When I click on it, it shows 4 or 5 files that have been loaded. If I click on any of them and then hit upload, I get an error. “Error uploading image!! Please use the browse.. button to select image to upload.
My files are in the 40 to 43 KB size. I’ve also tried the icon just to the left of the green tree, when trying to upload, it just stops, no activity. So I exit. I’ve reviewed the picture upload instructions, but they are old instructions. Any help would be appreciated.

Testing picture upload. ![]() Well, that seems to work all fine here. I'm using a windows computer and the Chrome browser and load one picture at a time. I'm using the same procedure as in the old thread "how to post pictures". those instructions still works fine here. Try to reply with "quote" on this post and see if this works. If you click on the tree and you see the four or five files as you say, then your pictures are uploaded. Click on any file of the 5 you see and insert the link in the text of your messagebox. the picture should come up when posting. (or when you click on the preview button under the textbox.

Oh btw, welcome to this forum.
About your questions in the first post, the as long as the ejector works you should be fine. They are a little fragile and break sometimes. About the barrelbushing, all my AMT's can only be removed when turning in the correct rotation. It's not both ways... About the magazines, are you sure they are for the 30 carbine? They also excist for the 9mm WinMag... Just some small differences as you discribe. |

The ejector in the IAI is shorter than the AMT, but it appears to work. I wasn’t sure if it was broken. The barrel bushing on the IAI clears the guide rod when bushing is rotated counter clockwise, but it doesn’t clear on the AMT, the funny thing is, I’ve had the AMT for about 10 years and I remember disassembling it, but how?? I don’t remember. I’m afraid to force it. I have a 3-1/2” AMT II where the bushing had to be forced to clear the end of the guide rod, I carefully removed some metal on the guide rod and now the take down is a breeze.
You brought up and excellent concern about the mags. The mags look identical, but the two of the followers are shaped slightly different. I’ll have to do some research as to which is 30 carbine and 9mm win mag. If you or others would like to see the pictures, I’m not afraid to post my email: camstuff@yahoo.com I’ll send pictures for your review. Thanks

Sorry for the delay in responding to this, I’m using an I-phone. I did try the quote and post a picture but still got the same error message. My old labtop is a windows 10, but don’t use it that much, I may give it a try later today.

I have 2 IAI AMIII’s, one with a long ejector like you see most of the time, and one with a shorter ejector en both work fine. Maybe one was replaced because the previous one was broken or so, but if it works it works… I’ll try to make some pictures tomorrow and post them.
I also had a AMT AMIII for a few weeks before I brought it back to the shop that sold it to me, and that one also had the long ejector. The biggest difference that I noticed between my AMT and the IAI’s was the cutout of the ejection port. On the AMT, the whole top of the slide was cut, passing the top rib of the slide. A bit like the AM IV and V. You can see what I mean on these pictures: The cut for the ejection port goes further than the top rib of the slide. On the IAI’s, the cut is much smaller. It does not go further than the top rib of the slide, similar to the picture somewhere in the middle of this article. The cutout stops just before the top rib goes over in the round part of the slide. However, on the first picture, this article shows an IAI and an AMT, and they both have the small cutout. My AMT had the bigger cutout, so I don’t know how or when that changed, but my third IAI AMIII which is still at my dealers shop also has the smaller cutout… |

Great information you shared. I checked both links. Then I checked my ejection ports, and the IAI was definitely smaller than the AMT. I also have a third 30 carbine coming and can't wait to check it out.
By the way, I tried to upload pictures from my Windows 10 laptop, and I received different errors this time. So I'm done with attempting pictures. I'll do my best to explain things in the future.
