All,
Following up on the success of my 357/44 AMP magazine loading tool (available on eBay), after visiting with John Lodahl a few weeks back I decided the Automag III community needed a similar tool. He provided me with the various measurements of the Automag III magazine, and I had my manufacturer alter the dimensions of the existing tool to fit the new requirements. I just received a light-duty prototype, intended to just test the form factor of the new design. ![]() I am mailing it to John for evaluation in the morning. He will make any needed design inputs, and a second generation prototype will then be crafted. The 357/44 tool required four rounds of prototypes but I’m hopeful the lessons learned there will enable us to get this one right after just the second (or with luck, the first) try. I’m hoping to have them ready for the market by February. Stay tuned!

This project stalled out somewhat but it’s moving along. After John’s inputs, a version 1.1 tool has been produced. It still suffers slightly in the form factor department (the top of the tool should be parallel with the bottom of the magazine, I think), and the plunger is unnecessarily long, as it’s the same length as that used in the 357/44 AMP tool whose case diameter is much larger.
![]() ![]() This one is made very roughly with very little material, just to test the form factor. I’m hoping to have version 2.0 done in a few weeks, and assuming all goes well it will then go into production and be available on Ebay, as the 357/44 tool already is. This has proven to be an expensive project as I was compelled to buy an Automag III once I got to fool around with John’s! 😜 Stay tuned…. |

I'm sure once you get all the tweaks worked out on this one, that it will be just as nice to reload the magazine as it is to reload the 357/44 AMP mags!
Any plans for making one for the AMT IV, 45WM also?

I would need to get a magazine and a couple of rounds of ammo to be able to do the modifications necessary. Likely the 357/44 would be a better starting point. |

I picked up the final production version from my friend with the 3D printer last night:
![]() I went to the range and fired 150 rounds and the tool worked perfectly: ![]() I will be making them available on Ebay soon. |

Well Mike, I finally had a chance to get out and shoot. Of course I had to bring the 30 Carbine and new reloading tool.
Just like the loader for the 44/357, this was a huge finger saver. Made loading the mags easier (and faster). I hate to do this to you my friend, but about the only criticism that I have is that it makes loading the mags so much easier that I go through more ammo. ![]() Definitely another tool needed by any AMT III shooter. Thanks!

Thanks John! I designed it and had it made for myself but figured other people would benefit also. I’ve only had a small prototype batch made, so I am open to any constructive criticism if anybody has ideas for refinements to the design that might improve its function.
