I am looking at a set of 3 LEJ Auto Mags.

They are Model 100's in .357, .41 JMP & .44 AMP.

I am waiting to find out the actual serial numbers.

Questions:  Should they have the Lions Head stamp on the receiver?

Did LEJ sell these in sets?  If so, should the S/N's be sequential?  How will I know if it is an original set (assuming he sold them in sets).

Thanks,

The Serial Numbers should be the same, well kind of.

Like LEJ-020 and LEJ-20X for the 357 AMP and 44 AMP (with the "X" being the 44 AMP).  My understanding is the 41 JMP is also marked like one of those and has an additional mark under the grip.  Since I've only seen pairs in person, I'm not sure about set of three.  There is a reference to this in one of the Automag articles, possibly one of the Lomont articles that appeared in Gun Digest (this from memory, I haven't looked).

I asked Lee about the Lion's Head, and not all of them had it applied in the Custom 100 Series, nor did they all have the sight inserts.

They weren't quite sold in sets.  He sold the first gun, the 357, then you were first in line for that same number in 44 AMP later, and so on.  He made 100 of the 357 and 44 AMP, which some were sold unmatched as the people didn't buy the second gun.  There were only 35 41 JMP's and I'm not sure how that went down.

There has been a couple sets sitting around for a long time at dealers I know of.  They wanted more than I was willing to spend.

Jason is correct about the serial numbers being the same not sequential.

They should NOT have a Lyons Head logo! If they have a Lyons Head logo then something is not correct.

And they were not sold in sets unless LEJ still happened to have the other guns. Most of the time the buyer of a particular serial number was given first offer forn the next gun and they it went to anyone who wanted it after that.

There are very few sets of all 3 guns and fewer still that are unfired and complete with all original accessories.

Best of luck!

GH

Thanks Jason, that information is a BIG help.  The S/N for the set I am looking at is S/N 15.

Thanks to you, too GH!

No Lions Head on this set.

Probably someone's initials.  It was a custom order option on the Pasadena's for sure.  I don't know about subsequent guns.

P.S.

I wouldn't pay that for those 4, but that's me.  Also, the Jurras set doesn't come with cases, manuals, etc, do they?
