Lee Jurras Custom 100

I am trying to find some production information for the Lee Jurras Custom 100.

 

 

If it has not been covered, through web searching I have only been able to find this:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It states that only 100 of these were made in each caliber.  (This might be poorly worded?)

 

What I am trying to figure out is what is meant by:  "...... 6 1/2 in. VR or 8 1/2 non-rib (only 10 mfg. in each cal.) ....."

I went back and reread them very carefully this time.  Not just flying through them like yesterday (when I initially posted this).

 

I asked this in a panic, and I am still in sort of a panic.  Not as much as yesterday, but still torn none the less.

 

I was at a local gun show this weekend.  There was a L.E. Jurras Custom Model 100 for sale.  The is the first Auto Mag that I have seen at a gun show in YEARS.  Excited to see an Auto Mag for sale, and more so when I saw it was a Lee Jurras Custom Model 100.

 

After going back through the links above, and the information provided by Bruce, I am at a loss for words.  I am posting this as I have a short amount of time to continue with my offer on it, or pull my offer.

 

As I mentioned it is a L.E. Jurras Custom Model 100, .357AMP, with the 8 1/2" non-rib barrel.

 

Right about now there are probably folks saying to themselves "WHAT THE H_LL IS HE DOING?  BUY THE DANG THING!!!  IF HE DOESN'T I WILL!!!"

 

Well, here is the "OMG"...... the frame is serial number LEJ-05x (I put an x to hide the last digit).

 

So, from reading everything it appears that Mr. Jurras made 100, Custom Model 100's in the .357AMP.  All of them with 6 1/2" VR barrels.

 

EXCEPT LEJ-080 through LEJ-090 that had the 8 1/2" non-rib barrel.

 

Yes, this pistol that is for sale appears to have a mis-matched frame and barrel.

 

So, my Auto Mag community of friends, may I get your input?  I know that nobody can tell me what to do, but what would YOU do?

 

-Being the frame serial number doesn't match the barrel, should that be a deal breaker?

-Could there be a "logical" explanation for this set-up? (two people got together with their LEJ Custom 100's and swapped barrels?)

 

The way I see it, it is still a Custom Model 100, .357AMP, 8 1/2" non-rib barrel on a marked Lee Jurras frame (LEJ-05x).

 

Go ahead, hit me with what you got!  Any help and input is appreciated.  

 

 

 

I agree about the correctly marked frame.  I have only read about, and seen pictures of, the Lee Jurras frames marked with the LEJ numbers on them.  This is the only one I have seen in person.

 

It is not only what Bruce mentioned, but what Rick Maples published: http://www.amtguns.net/articles/rick-maples/lee-jurras-and-his-automags/   (Page 3 spells out the configurations and serial number markings).  Rick's publication does talk about the 41 JMP's too.

 

Unless the publication was mistaken about the barrel configurations and serial numbers?

The Custom 100 barrels were sold individually too?  So, this could be an original 6 1/2" VR barrel and the 8 1/2" non-rib been ordered extra.  The 6 1/2" VR barrel gone/sold/broken and this is all that remains.

 

Harry sold Custom 100 barrels also?  I'll be that wasn't liked too much by Lee.

 

I guess the next question would be, if it is-what-it-is, and the documentation doesn't support it, then what is it?

 

It isn't a true documented Lee Jurras Custom Model 100, .357AMP, 8 1/2" non-rib barrel, on a correct LEJ serial numbered frame.

 

Yes barrels got swapped on Auto Mags, but LEJ numbered items?  I guess a lot of things could have happened.  It would just be nice to know that it is a documented firearm and not a "Yeah, but this combination doesn't add up".
