I have a .44 Automag that I listed for sale and I beleive I have it listed incorrectly.  Can I post the auction here so you can look at the pictures and tell me about this gun.  The serial number, I was told, is a Pasadena number but the barrel says North Hollywood Calif.  Can someone give me a date and maybe a reasonalbe value of this gun.  I'll post the auction so you can see the pictures.  It may not be for sale depending on the info that comes back.

Looks like a Pasadena lower with a North Hollywood Bbl.

My guess is that it got blown up at  some point and they replaced the Bbl, maybe even at the factory, but you not likely to know for sure.

As for price/value, well thats between the buyer and seller and only you two will be able to say what that gun is worth. Most used Pasadena and North Hollywood guns seem to sell for betweek upper teens to mid $2k, but that depends on a lot of things and can vary everyday.

Best of luck.

I agree generally with GH about the price range, except that it hasn't been that long since I was more used to seeing a $1,500 to $2,000 range. Hope that helps. Come visit us again.

Thank you for the info.  The man that owns the gun was pretty sure it was all original.  I had a feeling something was wrong.  The box has the logo on it but someone told me that it was not the original box.  What do you think.  It has the Automag label on the top of the box.

After Pasadena with bankrup,  the next model to appear was the North Hollywood. They used left over Pasadena parts to build North Hollywoods until the Pasadena parts were used up. It would be considered a transistion Automag. Still original just not matching upper and lower. Still a great piece to have.....Rick

The box looks nice but it's not the standard issue AM box. Those were black plastic with foam lining and very inferior to the one you have. I'm not going out on a limb and say yours isn't original factory, but just that it's not what I've run across.

The gun appears to have initials on it. I assume it's a past owner. Some buyers would not mind at all, but others wouldn't go for that on a high dollar gun.

A knowledgeable buyer will expect to examine it with a field strip before buying. To familiarize yourself with the kind of things a buyer will be looking for, check out the Auto Mag Pistol Buyer's Guide published by Yoshi Ishiguro. It is real helpful. There are probably links to it in the archives or maybe someone can point the way.

Incidentally, I think you and I are in the same city. Small world...

Everyone is correct.  But I will add a little more history to your N. Hollywood.
The frame is a left-over Pasadena. Now to let everyone in on a secret. In lot of the un-used Pasadena frames, if you turn the gun over & remove the magazine. In the area of the frame that is recessed for the magazine floorplate. That area is usually milled down a little deeper. This was done to remove the original owners initials from the gun he never received because of the bankruptcy. I have two of these in the A01200 & A01300 range. You can see the milling marks as well as the barely visible initials if held at just the right angle. Ironic that they actually sold the same frame twice. Most parts were left-over Pasadena, as seen by the teardrop recess in the bolt. But most Pasadena parts in the N. Hollywoods are most often seen in the Pasadena frames, not in the A04000 & up N. Hollywoods.

Initial engraving was offered on Pasadena Guns, many have been seen with Initials like those.  So the engraving may be factory

Also, Pasadena Frames were used in North Hollywood Guns, and there was a discussion about a lower serial range of North Holly guns appearing at some point (in the 1,000's but closer to 1,700 or so I thought).

Those grips should be polyurethane and not hard plastic, but you can bet if they are plastic, they are cracked.  The North Holly Grips look like the later TDE grips, but are of Poly and dont crack.

jvall,

I have a North Holly Like that.  I'll have to go look at it again.  I thought it to remove some frame casting problem, but you've been into Automags much longer than I!

I looked at the picture, I guess I am missing the nuances of the Pasadena model. It does appear to be more finished ( brighter) than mine and smoother edges.
What else am I missing? I have never seen one in person.
