I had a 475 Wildey that worked great. I heard not all do but I suspect many people are not handloaders and that's needed with these type of guns. I loaded mine with 325 gr Speer Gold Dot's and blue Dot powder. Wil Moore is who I actually spoke to (I didn't know it until I went to hang up and asked who I was talking to. He spent 30 minutes talking to me about handloading for it and even told what parts to order to load it on a Dillon press as that was what they used.....Super Nice and we had a good chat about shooting) He didn't recommend the Gold Dot's but that's what I could get and used. They worked fine. He was emphatic about using Blue Dot in the Wildey. And he was right! Of course he was, it's his brainchild. I sold mine to focus on Automags, but mine was fine, and an earlier model (before Warren, CT). I have a friend who has had 3 45 Win Mags and said he wishes he could find a 475 at a good price one day (he found the 45's cheap). I still have two boxes of Barnes 475 Wildey 300 gr bullets, one sealed I think, one open (I'd have to count them). They are marked 475 Wildey! Who's got any of those around? George- I had an article on the 357 Peterbuilt too. It was a copy that was in a Manila envelope addressed to the previously owner of my Wildey, along with a bunch of other factory literature. I wish I would have scanned it prior to sale, but I didn't. It was pretty interesting. I think it was a 45 win mag necked to 357. I know the 45 Wildey is a 475 necked to 45. FYI-you can look at Wildey data on the ATF website and see number of guns produced that were reported. I don't remember when that started, but since they made pretty much Wildey pistols, the data should tell you. Kinda wish I'd kept it. That's a nice set you have listed, but not for me, at least not right now. Interesting background on these "Colt" pistols. Jason |

P.S. As to the grip, I do have small hands, and yea the grips are large. Mine had smooth grips. I would definitely get a pair of them. The textured grips are probably tough on the hands (speaking from shooting hot Ruger Single actions with both types of grips). The grips locked into the frame with a dovetail arrangement and slid in from the bottom. They was a spring clip that locked it in place once it was all the way in. I think the original Automag design called for hidden screws or similar. You couldn't do what Wildey did on an Automag unless you thickened the frame. But I liked the approach, kinda cool and different. Jason

Jason, Whats a nice guy like you doing on a website like this,,, ;-)
How is life if FLA??? I was just trolling the interwebs and saw a boat in Seminole that caught my eye. Its exactly what I want in a boat, but older than I was looking for. Still, it looked clean and was 1 owner and priced right. How about, been boating much last year? GH |

That's interesting. With a bottle neck cartridge and their gas system, it seems like it would work good. I have never had any trouble getting any of the Wildey's to shoot as some have. Ejection through that screwy barrel extension where the bolt locks up is sometimes difficult. Do you know Jim Dolson? He really liked Ken Moore and says Wil screwed him over after the stroke. Jim blamed the stroke for Wil's problems. |

He's one of my closest friends. I went with him to SHOT for a few years and got most of my Grizzlys from him.
From what he's(Jim) told me, Wil's problems began when he started screwing over the King of Jordan on the JAWS gun. I think that lawsuit may have contributed to the heart attack. |

I just have talked to Jim on the phone. He loves to talk Wildey's and Grizzlies. By his own admission he has forgot more in the last 5 years than he remembers now.
