Hey guys I have a Automag 3 in 30 carbine and a Automag 5 in 50 ae. I am thinking of adding a 9mm mag and a 10mm mag to the collection. I like the in between sort of power that these offer between 30 carbine and 45 win mag. Does anyone have experience with these rounds in the Automag and how they are? Also if anyone has any leads on thes forsale I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks

The 9 win mag has been a hot item lately. I have seen more pop up for sale in the last year than ever. Typically sale for over 2k up to little over 3k if like new with box and papers. However 3 have sold recently on gun broker all of them have sold for 5k. I have only ever seen one 10mm mag sell ever not to long ago. sold for little over 3k. One difference is ammo availability. 30carbine easy to find, 50ae is not in every store but available. 9win mag and 10mm mag, plan on buying starline brass and hand loading to have ammo. or buying from a custom ammo producer. I haven't shot my 9mm win mag enough to really tell the difference from the 30. From the handful of rounds i put through it, it seemed fairly similar. I have a pile of new 9mm win mag brass to get loaded up one of these days so i can get some more time slinging lead with it.

Yeah I have seen a few of the 9mm magnums go as well they are not cheap. Thinking more about it your probably right that the 9mm magnums might not have that much more power than the 30 carbine. I guess for a reloading standpoint I may have better options with the vast amount of 9mm bullets out there as compared to 30 carbine.
I wonder how 10mm magnum compares to 45 Win mag. I have a Lar Grizzly in 45 win mag and one 44 magnum both are pretty powerful. I would hope that 10 mm magnum would be slightly less recoil. That’s cool you have one in 9mm magnum I hope you can get out and shoot it some more and let me know your thoughts! |

Hi Sailguns,
I have (and shoot) the AMT IV in 10mm Magnum and also the 45 WinMag. Recoilwise they are two different pistols... The 10mm full power loads recoils about the same as a 357magnum with medium loads... Some more reading about this here: |

Hey Luc V.
That’s great info. That is the sort of recoil I am wanting. 45 win mag is great but something a bit lighter would be really nice and I think that’s where the 10mm magnum would come in. Would I be correct when I say more power than 357mag but less than 45 win mag.

Well, felt recoil is hard to describe and also "personal"...
But to me it feels less as the 357 magnum (out of a 4 inch ruger gp100) or similar at the most. It is however much less as the 45 WinMag. The 10mm Magnum is my most favorite pistol to shoot of the whole AMT line. All I can say is if you can get one buy it! Reloading is no problem, plenty of 10mm/40cal bullets to choose from. |

Hey Luc.
Thanks for the reply. I am really happy to hear you say that 10mm magnum is your most favorite one to shoot. That my hope that it will be the same for me. Now I just need to find one for sale. I sure do love these pistols and hope I can get the chance to collect and shoot them. I really appreciate you guys giving me info. I’d like to learn as much as I can about these automags and others. ps. I found that issue of Guns and Ammo from September 1991 and bought it. It’s the one with a Lar Grizzly mark IV and the Automag IV in 10 mm on the cover. I’m excited to read that article!

That is the reason this forum is still on here, to share information, and learn all about those guns. Oh also note, it's free no tariff here... ![]()

I was bidding on a 10mm magnum on Gunbroker. I had to give up as the price just kept climbing way too high for my wallet. Too bad but that’s ok maybe I’ll find another someday.
