I cut 175 of these hammer struts from spring steel plate with a water jet machine in July of 22. My friend sells these at gun shows in Alabama as an upgrade for $65.00 each. It appears as though I will have to upload an image to Photo Bucket to display a photo here. It is late, that will happen tomorrow.

I have one of RedlinePlus' AutoMag III-IV-V Struts in my possession.  I found that it is top-notch in the fabrication and is quality. Unlike the others mentioned in earlier posts it is an EXACT size of the part installed on my AutoMag III. They were not.

If you want to repair your Automag and make it run without going through a lot of frustration- GO WITH IT!  If you like to tinker and have the tools and the inclination to make one it can be done, but to most a major headache can be avoided for $65 if you are just interested in getting it running.  Clap

OneWay, thanks again for the kind words.

I'm at a crossroad and need little help. We all know my Hammer Strut was designed as an upgrade and not just a bendable replacement. There are 9 left unsold and to my knowledge, the only hammer drop tests have been performed in one gun by yours truly. The ones that don't know me, will tend to think this strut is no better than the original until it has been proven by more than one person in more than one gun. So, if anyone who has one of my Strut Upgrades installed in their Automag III would be willing to remove the slide, cock the hammer, and then squeeze the trigger, I would be very grateful for the feedback. This will convince you and me the strut bending issue in your pistol no longer exists. Knowing this will take the stress out of cleaning your firearm and also determine whether I make more of the same, revise the drawing/program, or just not.

Now on the other side of this coin, if one ever fails, PLEASE Post it on the forum, shoot me a PM, and mail it back taped inside an envelope. Your choices will be a replacement or refund. And as always, if you ever have a problem with anything I make, modify, or design please let me know. Thanks.

RedlinePlus,
Even though I love you like a brother and have the highest regard for your ethics, when it comes to my favorite toys I am anal-retentive.  I can't bring myself to intentionally swing the hammer to an over center hard stop- fear of peening and over stressing.  About any other request would be a go- However, I'd be honored to send you my trigger finger instead.. [just kiddiing Wink]  Your spring steel strut was not yet installed as my trigger mechanism has 'trigger slick' (Chip McCormick) treatment and is currently NO CREEP- so it is being left as-is for the present.
Seriously, I applaud your quest for excellence. You only confirm your commitment to providing something with a proven track record.  Hopefully there are those here who's head is in a different place than mine ..so to speak.

To demonstrate how far I go to prevent any inadvertent boo-boo's I keep a pink wrist band from a breast cancer awareness drive to REMIND me not to get careless:

OneWay,
Thank You for the reply and pointing out my mistake. Hopefully, no one else has thought of giving me the finger.

ANYONE WITH MY STRUT, PLEASE IGNORE THE PREVIOUS REQUEST TO DO A HAMMER DROP TEST AS IT MAY DAMAGE YOUR GUN.

 < PLEASE DON'T DAMAGE YOUR GUN >

My Bad, I apologize to everyone for even asking.

Daryl, Your pursuit of perfection does not warrant an apology.

When the FireDragon needs it's next tune up rest assured it WILL have the Redline Plus strut installed.  I will give you detailed feedback when it becomes available.  Initial inspection was very positive and made me decide to install it next instead of the chromemoly steel ones that I made up.

Please recognize it was my "trigger finger" that was offered- 'the finger' to which you refer is reserved for selected dispersal Handshake

My friend’s machine shop finally got around to making these struts. He is going to pick up a couple next week. I will compare them to my factory strut. Stay tuned.

They look nice.
