Been thinking about getting a JAC or other 22 top and a 1911 Essex lower for a 22 conversion unit. Any thoughts?

Rick, here is my 22LR conversion. It is an Advantage Arms Target Model on a dedicated RIA frame. The Advantage Arms kit is the only one that I know of that locks back on the last shot just like a standard 1911!!! I lapped the frame and slide for a perfect fit!!!

I have a late model Colt Ace Conversion and it's nice, but the JAC is more practical.

My JAC took some fiddling to work, but it works great now.  One of my problems was a lightened mainspring I was using. Second, it didn't have enough firing pin protrusion.

Many people have had their JAC kits work just perfect out of the box.

My JAC kit is very accurate!

Jason, is the JAC kit the Ciener kit? If so I heard that his customer service is just about non-existent!!! Any truth to it!!!

Yep, Ceiner.

I had called and they told me to send it back and they'd look at it.  But I figured it out myself.  They specifically state not to use reduced power mainsprings or told me that.

It never jammed or anything.  Now it's 100%.  My dad has it right now.

I shoot my M17 more when I shoot 22's.

And no, neither the Ace 22 with the floating Chamber or the JAC kit anywhere duplicate the recoil of the 45 (the floating chamber was supposed to help).  But it does duplicate the fell.

My JAC kit I got in 1995 or so, I remember them being the only affordable kit (Marvel was making one for about $450 then) at the time.  Now there are lots of choices, and as I understand it, some of the others are made by Ceiner.  However, it's all about Q/C, and those companies may require testing of each kit or do it themselves.

Mine didn't have adjustable sights (not sure if offered in 95), I would recommend getting them.

John,

How does your Advantage Arms kit shoot???

Got a pic of it locked back?

I think my Colt Ace locks back too, does the Advantage Arms kit use Colt Ace Mags?

Jason, it shoots very well and is deadly accurate!!! I am not sure if it will accept a Colt Ace magazine or not!!

John,

That's interesting how the top stays forward.  I imagine that would reduce the recoiling rate and allow lighter 22 bullets to function.

I checked out the website and it's a polymer mag and they mention a special follower (and sometimes slide stop) in the mag, which makes me think a Colt Ace mag won't work.  There is some model that worked with a Colt Ace mag, maybe it was the Marvel kit.

For $250 list on the site, it looks like a good deal.

I'd get a good frame, mine is setup on an Auto Ordnance frame with a lot of custom parts, but that's because I had the frame forever and I ruined the feedramp polishing it, so well, it relegated to 22 use.

Rick-have you considered using "Fusion" brand parts?  Bob Serva runs it (formerly of Dan Wesson I think) and I bought a couple slides from him last year.  I emailed him and he put together a "package" price for me (for slide top ends).  He'll even assemble parts if you need.  I felt they were some of the best parts for the money I'd ever spent for 1911 stuff.  I won't go as far as saying as nice as Ed Brown or Wilson, but darn close.

I have a series 70 Gold Cup that I put an adjustable site Kimber(I believe made by JAC at the time) kit on. It still shoots accurately and functions well even when thuroughly fouled. I have no criticism about the kit. Off the subject a little I have a 460 Rolland kit also. It's a little tricky to get together-heavy springs- but a fun gun. It carries nice and is deadly on 3 deer that I know of.  Small doe-40yds,185gXTP@1550fps, Medium 5pt-15yds 200g Gold Dot at1400fps,and the biggest deer I ever shot-200lb doe field dressed. -230gXTP@1350fps The compensator on the muzzle keeps recoil down in the 45acp+p range.

Anyone has experience with the new 'Marvel' conversions from STI guns?

I 'm waiting on the arrival of the shipment here to test them out.
The slide should be held open after last shot on the model 1911 only, not on the 2011.
Interesting part, one conversion should fit both models (1911 and 2011) just need the two magazines.
