I was browsing the 1977-78 Guns Digest annuals and noticed "The AutoMag Story", a 2-part article. It mentions that the original AutoMag had an electron-beam welded barrel rib...

Do any of the members here who have had discussions with the new manufacturers know if 'The New AutoMag' has the rib electron-beam welded???

No, actually the rib and barrel are machined from one piece of steel.

Part 2 of "The Auto Mag Story" by Kent Lomont has 10 pages devoted to "adjusting and servicing, AMP components and their life, desirable modifications, trigger tuning, scoping the pistol, shooting positions, et cetera". Polishing covers several pages.

I don't recall if Lee Jurra's newsletter(s) had similar articles, but I would not be surprised if it did. I remember it had dozens of loads for both .44AMP and .357AMP.  Smile

Last known mass update from New Automag, via email to those waiting, was July 8th.
Anybody have anything newer?

Can't post an email very well but I'll try - here's the text from July's update:

Auto Mag Ltd Corp
July Progress Report

The transition to South Carolina is progressing and almost complete. Here are photos of the new space. June was a busy month; July even more so.

At the top of this block are two of three assembly areas for final assembly. We are currently going to have two active but will add a third if needed. The photo on the left is the Laser Star Laser Engraver for engraving the upper text and logo.. On the right is the reserve air to maintain consistent supply and pressure to all operations.

We have more than 200 of the new version of the Bolt and they are currently being plated. They will be complete in two weeks.

Anyone that has already gotten their Founders can get the new bolt at no charge. The barrel blanks are being drilled and rifled and will be complete next Tuesday. They will be machined into finished barrel over the next thirty days.

We already have completed barrel extensions and cocking pieces. We just got an update on the new improved magazines and the test samples should be finished next week unless we make any more changes. If they are OK we can have the next batch of 300 in 30 days.

Wolfe spring is in production of the new closed end flat ground springs. These should be complete September. We have plenty of original springs but will eventually replace then with them with the new version. We will also offer a replacement spring kit for original Auto Mags.

We are also building our own indoor range and universal receiver with both radar and light screen chronographs, and a high speed camera. This should greatly reduce time from prototype to testing.

The range should be up by next week, the universal receiver may take an extra week.

We are also going to build a cycler that will be used to pre break in the guns.

The machine on the left in this block is the Glass Bead cabinet. On the right are two buffers of the three total buffers. Each buffer will have different grades of polishing wheels so that we don’t have to make changes.

Every manufacturing operation has a "fab" shop or back office where prototypes and fixtures are fabricated. This is a work in progress for part of our indoor bullet trap. We will share photos of the finished device next time.

We will start some operations and training next week. We should be shipping guns this month.

As always, you may reach out to me with any of your questions. If you can no longer wait for delivery of your New Auto Mag .44 simply ask for a full refund.

Respectfully,

Patrick Henry III

That bullet trap looks surprisingly similar to the Tromix trap.
