For the extra $400, that "ION applied finish" better be something durable.

Looks flat black in my browser.

At least the black DLC finish on that gun Kodiak was showing off was shiny...

I agree with you on the DLC coating.

Here is a SIG 210 that has the DLC coating on stainless and it is a beautiful gun.

I agree

Finally my Classic Edition is in my hands.

But I still am waiting on a proceed from local LEO.   Washington State liberals sure managed to screw up a perfectly good NICS background check system. Putting the burden of background checks on local Leo with out providing staffing to the departments  😡

I ordered the 8.5" Classic right now in high polish and wood grips with the box and medallion and am waiting for the barrels to come in in February and get this thing going!

Now to find a 4 piece RCBS die set...

I’ll post more soon, first firing went ok with one hiccup.

The chamber has very tight headspace. Ran a few SBR 240 XTP without a issue (with one exception). Velocity was not terribly impressive at ~1230 FPS.

I then tried what I thought would be a moderate h110 handload loaded with new sized starline brass with Hornady 240 xtp. 1315 fps and a more robust fireball. For the record the charge tracked perfectly to Hornady manual listing, if you want to see what charge I used, look it up in the manual.  The gun cycled fine, then trigger pull no click.

Tried another same thing. Applied some oil, to the accelerator and other places, still no joy with the handloads.

I went back the factory ammo and it ran fine, really well in fact (with the exception of the one round which I tried to fire several times)

Ok so then it was time to tear down and measure ammo. And what I discovered was that sizing the new brass lengthened it to about 1.293.  Well within the case OAL spec in the Hornady manual, but I had to trim to 1.289 to get the case to seat in deep enough to get the bolt to fully lock up and enable trigger release.   Problem fixed. I disassembled the factory round that did not fire and it measured 1.291”

I dropped my load just a bit to match SBR velocity, and I’m good to go.

Tight gun. Tight chamber. If I had a chamber reamer, I might give it another couple turns.

But trimming the brass a bit is an easy fix, I can do my 400 rounds of new starline brass fairly quickly.

The gun is fantastic, however it has some very sharp edges (by that I mean hand cutting sharp), but cleaning that up on stainless is fairly easy.

So my assessment so far, the pistol is looking great, I just think they needed another 15 minutes of attention to detail to make it perfect.

Interesting. Trim length is 1.293” and max is 1.298” so it should easily chamber and lock up with 1.298. At least it’s not cut TOO deep. That would be a big problem.

Perhaps a visit back to the Mother Ship for a quick chamber ream wouldn’t be a bad idea? I assume it would be a very easy fix for them, and it would then make the gun ‘right’ so it wouldn’t require nonstandard-length ammo to run properly?

I’m surprised your SBR ammo isn’t as hot as your handloads. When I chrono tested ammo, with a 6.5 inch barrel on an original TDE gun, I got almost exactly 1400 FPS from SBR 240gr JHP. 22.5gr of WW296 gave 1289 fps and 24.0gr gave 1393 fps.

Both SBR and my 24.0 load seemed a bit overly hot for my tastes, so I plan to stick with something in the 22.5-23.0gr range.

I’m glad you are enjoying your new gun!

I think I would rather get a reamer and a gauge, or make a gauge and do it myself than send back a gun that took me almost 4 years to get.

I build very precise bolt action LR and ELR competition rifles, I can cut to zero headspace, or custom throats as well for that matter.  Do it all the time.

I’m going to see how the bolt lugs wear in together first.  That should, or at least may grow the headspace a bit.

Right now I just want to get a couple hundred rounds through it or so.

The trimming operation has definitely caused me to put on hold setting up a Dillon 1050 toolhead for the 44 AMP. One of my 1050s is setup for 45 acp and 308, a 44 AMP toolhead with a customized case feed adapter should work great on that one.

But rest assured, I will get it sorted out.   I hope to get a longer barrel at some point, and having the chamber cut slightly short is actually good as I could custom cut the chambers to the same spec.
