Ok, curious if anyone on this board ordered a Founders Edition after the above email was published?

...or switched their existing Classic order to a Founder’s Edition?

I always thought the original Auto Mag 8.5-inch vented barrel looked a bit too long, and the new 9.5-inch-ish barrel of the Founder’s Edition looks even more odd to me. But, different strokes.....

Well I called them. Left a message (3/30/2020) that I was interested in getting back on the FE list. I received a call back earlier this morning early that I wasn't able to receive directly but the voice mail left, it wasn't Patrick, said  "the one we had available sold  immediately" so whereas the email we received said 'several or at least implied more than one I was told that there was only one available.... which was sold....Cry

The email didn't say multiple FEs were available. It said "we have a limited number of the Auto Mag 180  Founder and Classic editions available"

I might be misunderstanding what their sales process is.

Why would they not ship the units (completed) that are in stock to people on the list vs. "sold right away"?

Are they just taking the "old" 180 castings they bought and finishing them with "new" parts and selling them on the side or to people who have been waiting?

Just curious more than anything else.

All he was saying is that because of refunds they had openings for a Founder's Edition and some Classic Editions for pre-order.

I talked to Patrick a couple of weeks ago and he was very enthused about the frames he was getting from a new caster and was thinking they were close to making a saleable product.

Far from Subject Matter Expert but this is my understanding below. The Automag.com website has some history on the development of the new AutoMag.

Their sales process is pre-order only, no delivery to date of a finished product. There are a few that exist but I think all are in the hands of the New AutoMag company.

I believe the New AutoMag company were going to use the old parts but found out that there were at least 15 variations of the old AutoMag, was not a consistent product.  Decision made not to use the old parts but start from a new “standardized” design that incorporated features of the AMT 180 and addressed deficiencies in the old design.

Several trial and error, several setbacks but I believe that progress is forward, and the Company is close to having a finished reliable product.  From my understanding, there are no finished FE’s that have been delivered to those who pre-ordered, no old parts used. None of the old castings will be used, all new castings and this is the current holdup.  All FE’s will be using new parts with design enhancements, safety being top.  There were a couple of FE’s sent to a couple of people outside the company, but after testing, flaws were found and later corrected in the design. Still no final FE are in the hands of those who pre-ordered, from my understanding.

Well sorry to differ....."limited number" is quite different from saying "...we have one each of the FE and Classic pistols available". The devil is in the details isn't it...

In truth does any of that matter?

If you want one and have ready cash, (no BS, you are 100% willing to commit) tell them and I suspect they will find you a place on the list.

If anything I think if they get to production there bigger problem will be finding customers, not customers desperate for guns. I still dont believe there is a mass market out there for the Auto Mag.  I think a better strategy would have been to build fully custom Auto Mags, much like the custom Single Action revolver industry.

Only time will tell.

I took it to mean precisely what it said; if you read more into it than what was actually there, that's on you - so kindly don't take your disappointment out on me.
