Well, that answers my question. I was wondering if new parts would fit old frames. Not just the bbl., but bolt, holdopen, springs, mags, etc. If this was mentioned earlier, I've forgotten. Sorry.

Gentlemen:

It is with deep regret that I report that I have cancelled my pre-paid order for a 44 Auto Mag Classic Edition. My order was placed just over a year ago, and my confidence in the New Auto Mag and Patrick Henry has not wavered. I was diagnosed with colon cancer two months ago. I underwent surgery 10 days ago and am now recuperating at home. Hopefully, they got it all.

Now, the bills are starting to mount up. I'm afraid my modest savings won't be enough, so I requested a refund of my thirty-five hundred deposit from Auto Mag. My refund check from Auto Mag was promptly received here and is presently paying doctors and hospital bills.

I am very disappointed that I was not able to see this venture through to the end. I had owned a High Standard 44 Auto Mag many years ago (with a spare 357 AMP barrel) and was quite happy with it. Many hundreds of rounds of both calibers expended. The 44 barrel was Magna-Ported and firing it never failed to attract attention.

I'll follow this forum and keep informed as to the progress of the New Auto Mag, and hopefully in a year or so I'll be able to add my name to the list once again.

If anyone is interested, my reloading die sets are posted on the Gun Classifieds forum.

Good day, and good luck to all of you!  Wink

Your health is the most important thing - gotta have priorities :)

I wish you all the strength you'll need and the best for your recovery - I helped my ex-wife through 2 bouts of cancer and she's doing strong, so it's wonderful that cancer is so survivable these days.

A new article was posted on The Firearm Blog, but after reading I think we pretty much knew most of the information in the article.

Thanks for the article John.  Here are two items I found.
1)  The production bolts were not cast but were made from a solid piece of stainless steel rod.  A few cast bolts were tried but they all broke right away.  They were not used in production guns.

2)  The rib was not "soldered" onto the barrel, it was electron beam welded.  Apparently many barrels skipped the inspection procedure and failed in use.

Someone commented that the Auto Mag is a gas-op.......NOT !

I’m in communication with Patrick all the time. They’re making great progress. He’s sunk an incredible amount of time and money into this project. He’s not about to let it fail.
I will have my FE in my hands in the near future and it’s gonna be well worth the wait.
