Greetings all. Been here a while, but my first time posting. I am gonna go out on a limb here and make a tentative prediction. I want this New Auto Mag Corporation to work. Florence is coming in with a vengeance. I know there is a very high possibility of disaster all along the east coast, in which case there will be talk of the NAM Corp. being hit by the "Curse" of bad luck. My prayer is that this storm will not be as bad as it could be, in which case it will serve as a sign that The New Auto Mag story will be a success. I pray that everyone all along the eastern seaboard be blessed with good fortune.

Patrick, any news? Hopefully both the shop, and everyone’s homes survived unscathed...?

Looks as though they didn't get it too bad in Loris

Talking to other folks in/around that area, there was/is power issues and getting debris removed that is still a challenge.

Not to mention the problems at home with similar challenges.
(kids getting to school, dealing with power lines to keep the fridge running...etc.)

Get healthy, then deal with work.

I talked to Kart Barrels in N. Carolina yesterday and other than some trees down and a lot of rain they were OK.

They haven't had any mail or UPS deliveries since the 12th which is putting them in a bind.

New update via email - quick meat 'n potatoes overview:

"Where are we on production?

Once we had the line set up in Loris we only needed three items to start with production. First was new bolts. We have about 250 complete. Next are finished barrels. We have over 200 rifled blanks. The barrel blanks are being OD turned and will be ready to mill into finished barrels starting next week. They will be machined into finished barrel over the next thirty days. We do have 46 complete uppers (41) 8 1/2 uppers and (5) 6 1/2 uppers. The last thing we need are frames. We were supposed to get some finished castings week before last to test but the storm held them up but if the roads are open Tuesday they will arrive then. If we approve them another 50 or so will arrive in the next week or two.

We already have completed barrel extensions and cocking pieces. Plus, the new improved magazines will be here in two weeks."

That is the most interesting video I seen in a while.

No idea why they needed it or what it actually proves, but it looks impressive.

Given all the time and money and effort going into to this, I still feel like I dont understand.

The original gun worked fine, just look at the Larry Grossman videos, there can be no argument, it works.

Sure it may have needed better tolerances, maybe better metals, and to be built on high precision CNC equipment, and maybe a few almost insignificant changes like drop the snap rings for actual bolts and maybe better/bigger springs for the sights and extractor, but the original design was fine and Larry could make them all day long.

So whats the point of all this?  Years been spent, countless dollars, and less guns than if Larry were making in his garage one at a time.

Its not like this is going to produce the gun for a grand, its now again so expensive only a few are ordering them.  Between the price, complexity, size and specialty wildcat round, it will never be a big seller. So again, what is really being accomplished?

Maybe it will all make sense in another 10 or 15 years, but at the moment it just looks another weird page in the history of the AutoMag that just dont make any sense.

Well its interesting to watch if nothing else. And for those who actually want to own one and shoot one, you can still go to gunbroker.com and actually buy one.  -Joe

Did any of them think about machining the parts to the correct specs instead?

Prolly didn't need "thenewautomag.com" any more - automag.com works just fine.

I received this email, and read the "update" too.  Now I am wondering what is REALLY going on?  It would be nice to get a straight answer.

Earlier this year all of the FE were complete.  They had all of them.  Then they had minor changes to the feeding (I understand.  That seemed to be a great idea.)  Then there were issues with the magazines.  Now that seems to be taken care of.  Excellent!  Then they were going to coat the parts with some sort of coating that would make it run smoother.  Great!  (Wasn't that completed a couple months ago?)

Now they built a machine to cycle it?  Why?  To shorten the "break in" period?  How many frames can they get on that machine, and how long do intend to cycle them?  If we want to take them apart and run them through a Lomont or Jurras "tune up" then let us.

I am not "jumping on Joe's wagon" (no pun intended), but I have to vent!  I think a lot of us have been extremely patient.  Please stop giving us "two more weeks" or "next month".

Is there any possible way to get version-1 out the door while you work on version-2?

Ermm

If you were happy and you knew it, would you clap your hands?
