My problem would be paying for a site. The first issue is how to pay and the fraud issues that it brings, unless it's strictly send "checks/money orders". Then you have the people you lose because they only come to gather and chat and make a few comments. Then some figure it's not worth the price to get a few questions answered so they skip over the site and go to youtube or whatever. Some here provide GREAT insight and help through videos, pics and such so now are you going to ask them to stay/pay and help, I personally love the passion here and have helped enough to feel what space server I used is put to good use. Force paying/subscribe I don't think is the answer, ask for donations via check/money order I think is the nicer way to go as some will throw in what they can and some won't, it's a choice than.

I not sure how much cost are incurred in running a site and doing the upgrades/maintenance, maybe if Ian wants to share that along with asking for donations or just ask for donation or just whatever it's his choice. My other worry and his may be still in the back of his head is that "UK issue" of being a bad influence and being outlaw/banned. Moving the site to your house Luvz?

There is so much info on this site and only a few ever visit or even know to visit them other parts! Tons of pics and info of history here. I spent hours just looking and never really read everything yet. You bet I copied some of it as you never know when the gov comes knocking to shut it down.

I have also sent long videos via cloud as sending it here never seems to work for me, probably something I'm doing or my net provider issue.

Also "Server space is cheap it's the bandwidth that gets ya" as I was told, maybe Ian could explain this better to us. That is another benefit to using Youtube but again not sure about all the details that can "gotcha" doing it there either.

So Ian this thread has drifted around a LOT, how about some guidance?

Some interesting ideas, the only one I would shy away from is the pay part, just because I think that this information and participation should be free.

I like the youtube channel idea with a branding on each video we post up and will see if I can get the channel name.

Quite happy to do some work on the site to get it a little more like a website with a forum rather than just a forum.

What things would we like to see on the forum site, any ideas would be welcome?

But we would need the videos to put up on the YouTube channel.

I could throw something together on the Automag model line. I'll post when I have something to be reviewed because I might have left something out. Always good to have more eyes for comments and such.

I believe your ideas would be better served with an expanded FAQ or Information sub-page to this forum. Indexed by type with supporting documentation and video links as appropriate. Take a look at how some of the auto-enthusiast websites do it. They will have eith highest level portal type formats as you do with immediate divisions by sub model and even production year(s) divisions below that.
Common areas for resources, suppliers and the like can be at the highest level as you have. Basically looking at the subject as an abstract concept and information that applies to all subjects can be at the highest level with specialty information like assembly at the lowest. Including video links.

No need for a YouTube channel, just links to tie it altogether. And YouTube's policies for firearms might become fluid.
