After seeing "Dances with AutoMags" post a link to the AutoMag III takedown on a post today lets see if we can get a set of links together for them all so we can pin them to the FAQs. Prehaps we should get a YouTube channel for the forum to host videos and get a full set. AutoMag II Disassembly Assembly AutoMag III AMT Backups |

I'm not sure what's involved in getting a channel so good luck with that part BUT if you want my peeps those who can't get help on YouTube will finds us here. I have sent very detailed videos on the uppers and lowers and helped those in need privately to get em through some issues.
Now what might be a good idea is to make a sticky thread of help videos but you really need to sort through the stuff as some really lack each step as needed, very basic to just a shoot em up video is what I found. The Automag II is really short on info. on youtube also. My thoughts are more for keep it here so you get more people to visit and maybe join in and help as well. If people just do YouTube you won't get visits here as much is my thinking BUT I have been wrong before. I also don't know what benefits you get from joining YouTube, maybe it's worth it. Never looked into it before as what they offer to get you on their site.

Good point,
I have a couple of options we could use. As you say we can host them on YouTube and allow everyone to find them but that will not bring them to the forum and interact with us. We could make the videos private and only accessible from this forum or we could host them else where and restrict access to people that are visiting the forum keeping them for use of the forum members and visitors. What we need is the content, if you are willing and able to video the instructions I could wrap them up with a welcome screen and credits so they have a look and feel to them. Perhaps others can help out as well, it would be a good thing to have for both the members and the visitors. Ian |

On the contrary—I can think of no better way to alert the world to our presence than by having videos on YouTube on our own channel, with links and information in the description to point people to the forum. Presuming the point is to grow enthusiasm for the brand, and grow participation in this forum, I think anything that was done to restrict would-be participants would be counterproductive. The hard part will be generating the content. That will require some time and dedication, and a certain amount of expertise that I sorely lack....

Ian, I know we've all talked to folks about different models, builds, etc. IE: Tony getting his AMT-II and and AMT-III "tuned" to run; Paul and his detailed photos of the different builds (slides/frames) with the AMT-IV (I think it was the IV); Bruce sharing his knowledge, folks posting links to vid's, etc. There is SO MUCH on this site about the Auto Mag from long time members (Bruce Stark, Lee Jurras, Brian Maynard, Tony Rumore, XP001, and ALL the others over the years) that have extensive knowledge that they were so kind to share. And that they are still willing to share. What would the possibility be to make the "front page" of your site similar to your other site? Having folders/links to the various makes and models? That way folks could easily navigate to a specific model that they may be interested in, and sharing any/all info. they may have. Instead of "lumping" (for lack of a better term/word) into 1 general forum. As for posting on YouTube, I believe there is something like a "registered member" where when people click on your video and watch it, and "like" it, you actually get paid $$$. It may not be a lot of money, but any little bit would help costs for this site that you have graciously provided over the years for us, for free. I understand that we all want to share, and generate more participation for knowledge and sharing, but if you "freely" give it, people might not tend to want to join and participate, and just take whatever they can. Just another thought.

Dig into the YouTube if you want as I said there might be benefits to it and also like other comment posted it might pay you BUT not sure on what requirement is needed to get that.
Videos should have a nice opening scene that put this site Info to help guide them here for the forum and such. Maybe with an ad like talk about what else is on here, like the history of the Auto Mag and the AMT line up as well as the following always willing to discuss any issue not discussed in this video. If you tube is not the right way for this site, then I think making it easier to find videos and info by model would also get some here. I found the search isn't the easiest to work here but maybe that's just my issue. Is there an easy way to sort the general forum posts into groups of models being discussed by using their title names or such? I'm sure others couldn't find the answer needed through the search engine and gave up and others too lazy so both just posted the question "again" because it was faster and easier than sorting through the general site. There are some here that have great info. and what ever way you go will help. As for videos, it may be nice once a video is made to pass it to a few that want to advise on this project to make sure it is complete and covers all the issues known so it's the best out there. If you make a channel here just for videos it would also make finding them easy to use and refer to with a note to refer to the forum side as well. It all depends on where you want to go with this and how much effort is needed to do it. Let us know, we can help if you need it just ask.

Unfortunately a lot of the forum posts "drift" a little - as with most other forum threads. For example, there is a thread about "The New Auto Mag Part 2". On page 31 it drifts slightly to discussing the Desert Eagle rounds. (Which I am hoping to read about and follow in the future). As with most forums (not just this one), right now there is a lot of info regarding a lot of things in multiple threads. Sometimes a lot of information regarding a lot of things in 1 thread. Going through every single thread and "copy and pasting" into specific threads would be nightmare. If this forum is set up into specific folders/threads, as we (the forum members) search for something specific, if we run across something maybe we can "copy/paste" into the more specific thread? (I hope that makes sense) If a video was made, and this forum "credits" were at the beginning, would that imply that it might be copyrighted by this forum? Just curious. I agree, if we can help in any way, just ask. You've laid the foundation many years ago, and this really could end up a library of information regarding the Auto Mag and AMT's, and the various models throughout each lineup.

Great point on the thread being moved! Yeah, just would need to cut/paste important parts of that model.
If we start with a clean slate and get a area just for info on that model set up, then over time it will fill up as needed. The area should not be use for the complete thread as DRIFT always happen as we know. Just more of a cut/paste post of important facts. As for the credits, more of a thing of stating where they can find more info, IF it was a YouTube thing. More of a "branding" of where the info came from and where there is more to be found. I didn't want to get who owns the video and such, just to refer where it came from so they can get more info.

As for a thread referring to "others youtube" video, well you just pushed them off this site to go to YouTube and maybe never to see them again. I also think they might have thought a dedicated site would get better info then YouTube so they came here, and then we push them back off to go to YouTube?
Another thing, some would have done the YouTube thing and didn't like or find what was needed. Well them are my thoughts. Let's us know when you decide what way you are going. You could do both if you wanted to. Cover your bases with an opening, YouTube it and then you could also setup a link page here to it. Solves the video question BUT then would we need need a more issue/detail about them models? Well, time for Ian to answer some questions.

All very valid. The only issue I see are picts and videos take up a lot more server space.
I'm willing to send money annually "to subscribe" to this site if needed to help offset the increased costs, if there are any.
