As stated above the AM III I just purchased is one of the earlier produced guns.  It has the orange follower.

I’ve not had much success using the search function to find posts on factory Ammo for the AM III pistol.  I want to purchase a couple boxes to test her then decide if I will invest in the dies to roll my own.  From what I’ve found online PPU & Fiocchi are the best price.  Both offer FMJ and PPU also has the softpoints.  Any recommendations are appreciated.

Mine has run anything I've put into it.  Except, years ago I bought a brand (can't remember exact brand) the first 7 rounds I tried had a nice deep firing pin strike in the primer but it never ignited the round.  It was odd.

Other than that 1 box I have never had a problem with any other brand.
If you were happy and you knew it, would you clap your hands?

Ok, first welcome to the odd world of Auto Mag AND AMT misfits!
The Automag III came in 2 calibers, 30 carbine and 9mm WinMag.
The most important thing to remember when you break it down to clean is do NOT lose the pin and small spring that is inserted inside the rear of the recoil rod! Without this set up you could end up with  jam-matic pistol depending on what type of barrel it has. The barrel without the slide interlock ribs will work without this set up but the barrel with the interlock ribs will jam if you don't have them inserted. Not sure if the mags are interchangable from 9mm to 30, I think there was some difference with them and the feedramps on barrels.
Please feel free to chime in if you know for sure OR you can find the BIG thread where it was discussed years back. Lots of info in that thread! mags, frames, barrels and slides. I know there were pics too! We love pics here!
Once you get yours, show it please.
I have shot many rds through it without issues, with and without that pin/spring set up(long story bout that). Big flame thrower, loud as hell but little recoil. A BLAST to shoot!!
Good Luck

XP001: TY for those tips! Expect she will arrive late next week. Looks like I’m going to order 100-200 Fiocchi to begin the romance.  I will post pics.

About ammunition, the most spectacular to shoot is the UMC brand. It was accurate, reliable and most of all it was a pleasure to watch the flamethrower…

In reply to the magazine question, there is a difference between the orange and black follower as far as I know.
I think XP001 you refer to this thread, good info and learn some more:

To Kwesi, welcome here and enjoy the AMT.

Luc V: great thread thx!  I would love to hear about other Ammo experiences.  From the pics I have of my soon to be received IMI 30, I assume the rear sight does not have white dots.

I have one of the early Automag ll with SN MOXXXX and it has a Black follower in the magazine and is bright stainless steel finish. I recent bought what was listed as an AMT Original Factory Magazine from Numrich (gunpartscorp)and it had a dull finish with an orange follower. It didn't work in my gun and jammed with the first bullet so it's going back tomorrow. I don't even believe it was made by AMT and looks like a poor cheap Chinese attempt at a Clone! Anyone else have the same problem?

The ones they list for the AMT III has a black follower and the body does not look polished BUT they list it as factory.
