I loaded some 45 Win Mag in 2014 for my Wildey at the time but we have since parted ways, but I do still have an LAR Grizzly and I want to hunt with it this year. I loaded some 230 gr XTP's with 18 grs of Blue Dot. This was a great load in the Wildey, but I'm wondering if it's too much for the Grizzly. I have heard the horror stories about the pressure spikes using Blue Dot for magnum charges. Any experience or opinions out there?

First if all, I have no experience with that load.

My first thought was go ahead and give it a try.  After some time on Google, the loads for the 45 Win Mag and Blue Dot are all over the place.

If it were me, I would start with 16 grains and work up from there in the Grizzly.  Better safe than sorry.

Good luck.

Hi, No LAR Grizzly, but thanks to Beemers recommendation I'm back to using Blue Dot for 45 winmag.
I've worked up to 17 grains and stopped there (satisfied). 230gr xtp, WLP, 1.550" in 10" Wildey. A Grizzly is on my list, but I'm not as lucky as you are. Hope this helps, David

Omni, if you like I can buy that ammo from you and send you some brass to reload as well. PM me if you want to talk prices, etc.

If you want to just buy some good Griz ammo or just talk to an expert, look up "jd5006" on GB. That's Jim Dolson's handle and for my money, he's the top dog of Grizzly info.

Yeah I bought my Grizz from Jim I believe. If you want the ammo I will just send it to you for the cost of shipping. I have more 45 win mag brass than I will ever use the rest of my life. I just wanted to know if I could run these through the Grizz but I'm thinking not. There is less than 40 rounds of this charge and load. I have some 230gr RN loaded for plinkers, and 10 rounds of 230gr XTP loaded with N110, I'll probably just use these. Thanks gents!
