The Lightning pistol is essentially the same as the Ruger MKII/MKIII.

Search Youtube vids on the Ruger issues/problems/tune-ups and you should be able to get yours up and running just fine.
If you were happy and you knew it, would you clap your hands?

I've seen some of them on MK I frames.  I have one.  I actually converted it to have a hold back.

I would not do it again.

Oh,  I misread.  If it orginally locked back, then it could be the magazine (MK I magazines didn't lock open I don't think) or the bolt lock or the spring.  It may just need disassembly and cleaning if the spring gunked up

It might be the lever itself. AMT redesigned the frame and bolt release lever on later versions. I assume they had problems with the earlier ones. That being said, JW is probably right, and a good cleaning might do it. Worst case you might have to tweak the lever itself. It seems unlikely the bolt would be the issue because the steel is harder than the lever.
