I've acquired several AMT Hardballer Longslides over the years - it's time to thin the herd, but I'd like to keep one of mine, just to have one - LOL, but I sure don't need to keep every one that I have - overall condition of the gun being important, for sure, but of the different manufacturing locations they used over the years, guns from which facility would be the most desirable to have?

Have you done any work to any of yours like replaced hammers, sears, etc?
I have one and want to slick it up and eventually go 10mm with it. Actually wanted to see about a 460 Rowland conversion but read that 7" slides don't cycle correctly with the 460 round. |

Haven't done any real work on any of them, except cleaning - one of the guns I sent out to Patriot Gun Polishing for a high-gloss polish - he does excellent work, and I will keep that one, for sure - I also had him polish a Norinco 1911 - IMHO, it looks exceptional, too.

Took mine out to shoot it for the first time the other day and besides having a horrendously heavy trigger, it shot quite accurately.

I’ll have to take out the AMT longslide out of the safe and to the range next week. It’s the 10mm, 7”. They called it the Javeliina, Haven’t shot in years. Around that time I was interested in shooting a 1911 style semi auto with magnum power. I ended up buying a Detonics Scoremaster 451M(6” tube) Not the case capacity of a Rowland but if i recall I’d shorten 45WM or maybe Super, cases, to about the length of an 45ACP. at the end of the day , I think it was —essentially—just a very hot rodded .45 (ACP) . I’d shoot 230s out of it. It liked medium burn stuff. AA7 was a fave for good performance. It was unnerving because once it went off it felt like a kaboom every time. I really felt that that kind of dynamite load would behave a lot better in a revolver as the gun should rotate up with a not so tight hold. Ergonomically, just a better fit for the larger cartridges. (Realized later the original Auto Mag inn44AMP satisfied what I was looking for)
In the 1911, it just felt like it would rip your hands off. Great trigger on that Detonics. Clean and predictable break you didn’t have to think about. And it was an an accurate shooter . good luck on the conversion, if that’s feasible and worthwhile. In about a week or so I’ll get he dust off that 10mm and provide an update

Funny you should say that...did you know Detonics almost made a revolver?
Had Bob Cogan make my .45 LS into a Rowland. Only a 50 rnd box thru it, but so far so good. |
