All,

This oddity popped up on Gunbroker today:

I thought the 8.5-inch vent rib barrels were one-offs made especially for Sudden Impact. I didn’t realize there were any of these produced earlier? What is the story here? Is this a Lee Jurras custom deal?

I saw that also Mike.  I was going to email him and see what the stencil said.

There were very few made but there were several different guys who did after market versions from 10 1/2" plain barrels.

In picture #4 I see that it is a Model 280 barrel for a solid bolt gun.  I do not think that any 280's were made 8 1/2" VR so I bet it was added later.  I could be wrong, maybe Bruce can answer that.

At one time, I had Serial Number B00370. It was identical to that gun, even down to the A type slotted bolt installed in it. It did not have a solid bolt installed nor was there any evidence of a solid bolt ever being installed.

It might be the same gun.

Tony, did B00370 have an 8 1/2" barrel when you owed it?

Bert Mason has a picture of it his book as being a "B" series gun shipped from the factory with a slotted bolt but it has a 6 1/2" VR barrel .

Yes, it had an 8.5" vent rib barrel on it, just like the one on GunBroker.

A guy was walking around in one of the Tulsa gun shows with it strapped on, in a shoulder holster. I saw the butt sticking out and asked him about it. That's when he whipped out the big 8.5 inch, S/N B00370. I bought it for $2,500. That was June of 2006. I think I later sold it to Don Nixon?

Tony
