I'm kind of bringing this thread out of a coma, but I can't really find an answer or a better place for it. Please direct me if you happen to know a better place on the site.

I just got an AMT Automag II, serial number in the H27300 range. Six rows of three holes in the chamber. It's practically brand new. Maybe a box of ammo has been through it. It shows almost zero wear and only has light carbon deposits. As I got it on GB from a pawn shop I can only speculate, but I'm guessing it was a safe queen.

Anyway, my question comes from the magazine. It only came with one, and that one has a black follower. I haven't taken it to the range yet, but on working the action and such I see that the mag won't activate the slide catch, but keeps it in place if it's already activated. It also hangs in the mag well loosely, moving about 1/16th of an inch up and down. Are these things normal for factory Automag II's? I've heard of the slide catch issue, but don't know if the extra room to move will greatly effect the function of the gun.

I've got a 6" and a 3.5". In the 6" gun, the orange follower mag fits perfectly with no movement. The black follower mag moves about .040" in it.

In the 3.5" gun, again the orange follower mag is tight and the black follower mag is loose. It has about 1/16" of play in it.

All the mags work fine in the guns.....after the guns were completely re-done. Neither gun would even come close to functioning when I got them.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Tony. What do you mean by re-done? I've never heard anything about working on these things to get them to work better, other than polishing the feed ramp and other fine tuning things. I'd be curious to know if there is a list of things that can be done that are guaranteed to get an Automag to function reliably.
